Plano Named Best-Managed City in the U.S.

Plano Named Best-Managed City in the USIn its analysis of statistics including poverty rate, high-school graduation rate and change in median home value, 24/7 Wall St. named Plano as the best-managed city in the U.S.

Irving was the only other municipality in the Dallas-Fort Worth region to make the Top 20 list for the 24/7 Wall St. site, which provides analysis for equity investors. Irving came in at No. 17.

Here’s what the 24/7 Wall St. analysis showed:

Plano, population 271,380:

  • Poverty rate – 7 percent
  • Median household income – $80,184
  • 2011 unemployment rate – 7 percent
  • High-school graduation rate – 92.6%
  • Credit rating – Aaa
  • Change in median home value (2007-2011) – 5.3 percent

Irving, population 220,699:

  • Poverty rate – 14.8 percent
  • Median household income – $47,266
  • 2011 unemployment rate – 7 percent
  • High-school graduation rate – 78.8 percent
  • Credit rating – Aaa, Negative Outlook
  • Change in median home value (2007-2011) – 2.1 percent

A couple of other Texas cities made the list of the best managed cities in the country: Austin (9) and Lubbock (20). San Bernadino, Calif., ranked the worst-managed city in the U.S. No Texas cities made the bottom 10.
